Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I was born and grew up in Oswego, NY. I graduated from Oswego State in 2011 with a degree in Elementary Education. Right now I am substitute teaching and am very excited to look for a job this spring. Practicing Bikram Yoga is one of my most favorite things to do. I also love reading books, listening to music, photography, traveling and enjoying nature.
What brought you to the Bikram yoga practice?
I went to my first Bikram class with my sister after she told me about it. I was very intrigued by the room being hot and I had always wanted to try yoga.
How often do you practice?
I like to practice Bikram as much as possible! If I am able to go everyday in the week, I will! Right now I am committing myself to at least three times a week.
What specific physical issues, if any, did you have before taking your first class? What changes have you seen/felt in your body- overall physical and general well- being?
Before beginning Bikram I had pretty bad back pain from waitressing for many years and sitting for long hours in college. Since I have been practicing Bikram, I can honestly say my back is much stronger and I have no pain! My emotional well-being has improved greatly. I am able to refocus back to my peace so much easier now. The list of benefits that this yoga has provided for me could go on and on! Physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually,-my life is much different than it was before I began practicing.
What are the greatest benefits of your practice?
The greatest benefits of my practice has been the elimination of my back pain and how much flexibility I have gained. I remember my very first class and I was not able to touch my toes. I now can not only touch my toes, but I can place my palms on the floor! This yoga has had a huge impact on me mentally and emotionally. I am more calm, content and able to cope with stressful situations so much easier. My body now has a full range of motion whereas before certain movements would have hurt.
How has this practice changed your health and life? Any emotional or other benefits?
I am a much more healthier person than I was before I began. I pay very close attention now to what kinds of foods I eat. I drink more water. I pay attention to my breathing. I now enjoy meditating. I am much more focused, relaxed and patient.
What is your favorite part about Bikram Yoga Oswego?
Bikram Yoga Oswego is the very best! The teachers are absolutely amazing, the atmosphere is very positive, and the studio is gorgeous!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Give Bikram Yoga a try and you will soon be hooked! My advice is to be very patient with yourself and never give up. I remember how inflexible I was when I began and it's truly amazing to see how far I have come. Don't be nervous about the heat, it is the BEST part! NAMASTE!
